Water Rationing: A Recipe for Health Risks

The Public Health Association of Zambia has expressed concern over the rationing of water, warning that it could lead to a rise in the number of individuals facing water scarcity.

Association National Coordinator Maambo Mumbuluma, says this, in turn, may result in a lack of access to clean water for many people.

Mumbuluma has emphasized that this situation could compromise hygiene practices in households, schools, and other public areas, potentially leading to disease outbreaks.

He has pointed out that water rationing may leave communities and homes without sufficient water, putting them at risk of consuming unsafe water.

Mumbuluma has also highlighted the link between water scarcity and the spread of waterborne diseases, citing the recent cholera pandemic as an example.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts to address climate change challenges, Mumbuluma has cautioned that such measures could pose a threat to public health.
