Kwacha’s Unexpected Rise: What’s Behind the Shift?

Economist Kelvin Chisanga has highlighted several factors contributing to the recent slight appreciation of the kwacha.
Chisanga emphasizes that the successful conclusion of the $3.5 billion debt restructuring agreement with bondholders has notably bolstered investor confidence, signalling the potential onset of Zambia’s economic recovery.
He points out that the recent injection of $16 million into the market by the Bank of Zambia has played a significant role in the kwacha’s appreciation, reflecting the central bank’s intervention measures.
Chisanga also mentions that corporate entities and exporters fulfilling their monthly obligations are contributing to the current exchange rate dynamics.
