The National Union for Miners and Allied Workers has commended ZESCO for sparing mines from load shedding during the current power crisis in Zambia.
According to NUMAW President Saul Simunjika, introducing load shedding in mines would have resulted in significant job losses and reduced production in the sector.
Simunjika notes that major mines like Mopani and KCM were exempted from load shedding to prevent a decline in mining output and job losses.
He says that the Zambian economy heavily relies on mining, and disrupting the power supply to the sector would have severe consequences for the nation.
