Mapatizya Member of Parliament Emeldah Munashabantu says the increased allocation of Constituency Development Fund-CDF from K 28.3 million last year to K 30.6 million this year will enable the government to respond to water challenges that the people in her constituency are facing.
Munashabantu who is in the Constituency holding sensitization and consultative meetings with stakeholders, says the Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC ) working with traditional leadership, has set out a target to embark on a three-year project of drilling boreholes in every village at places that will be identified by senior headmen in the next three years.
She notes that the project which will include repairing the already existing none functioning boreholes, will help improve access to clean and healthy water in Mapatizya because it’s a thorny issue that will now be resolved with the availability of CDF resources.
Zimba Council Chairperson Loveness Chigora says the ward development committees have a huge responsibility to ensure that they present the correct picture of water problems in their communities.
Chigora emphasizes that WDC members remain very cardinal in the implementation of the decentralization policy because they live with the people in zones and wards, hence should not be deceitful to both the government and the people they are serving.
