The Bus and Taxi Owner’s Association of Zambia called on the government to repair dilapidated roads to reduce road traffic accidents.
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali had earlier noted that the government is ready to lift the night travel ban if road accidents are reduced. However, the Association’s Deputy National Secretary General Peter Phiri notes that most road accidents are caused by driver error, which occurs because drivers are trying to avoid potholes in many instances.
Phiri adds that some roads are destroyed hence considered death traps, highlighting that Kabwe road is one of the roads that have been damaged and has claimed several lives.
He has urged the government to address all factors that contribute to road accidents before considering lifting the night travel ban
